... to see the faces in the clouds or the wild, white horses of the sea...

For my wonderful husband Rob - who finally made it to Samarkand...

You're sitting in the rocking chair - staring into nowhere...
The evening paper fallen from your hand...
I ask you - where your thoughts were? and you smile and
answer 'Here!'
You think maybe I wouldn't understand if you said 'Samarkand...'?
But I have seen the salamander living in the fire....
I've heard a dragon roaring as the flames grew higher and higher...

CHORUS:
So come on close your eyes a little... let your mind feel free
To see the faces in the clouds - or the wild, white horses of the sea....

If famous men can write of worlds of elves and wizardry
and magic powers within a stolen ring...
- then Middle Earth is just as close to you or I today...
and we can hear soft voices in the wind - where mermaids sing.
It's good to lie in summer on a quiet stretch of sand
and let your mind get taken by the ever-after land....

CHORUS:
So come on close your eyes a little... let your mind feel free
To see the faces in the clouds - or the wild, white horses of the sea....

It isn't just to children that the gift is given
to see the courts and castles in the fire....
And if you really want to journey in the shadow-lands
then ghosts and goblins all are yours to hire - to your hearts desire!
It only takes a wild mind (a child's mind?) to learn...
and I'll be waiting for the tales you'll tell on your return....

CHORUS:
So come on close your eyes a little... let your mind feel free
To see the faces in the clouds - or the wild, white horses of the sea....
