...those Hands from Heaven.....

...one more flight.....

There's a man in town tonight - gonna take me on a journey
Don't ask the destination - cos I don't really know
Maybe out to Cuba - maybe to Africa....
But wherever he leads I am ready to go....

CHORUS:
Oh come back Isaac, now and then...
Take me to places I've never been
It's one more night - one more flight
On those hands from Heaven.......

Each time I hear you it is just like the first time...
It's like listening to a new kind of one-man band.
You know what you're hearing but you can't quite believe that
it could come from one voice, one heart and one pair of hands...

CHORUS:
Oh come back Isaac, now and then...
Take me to places I've never been
It's one more night - one more flight
On those hands from Heaven.......

Sometimes you take my spirit out dancin'...
- sometimes your blues fit my pain like a glove.
But sometimes you touch every nerve in my body....
And that's when your music feels like making love...

CHORUS:
So come back Isaac, now and then...
Take me to places I've never been
It's one more night - one more flight
On those hands from Heaven.......
Give me one more night
Make it one more flight
On those hands from Heaven......

...one heart...

I can imagine few worse ways of starting off 2001 than hearing of the death of Isaac Guillory.

It has left me, as I'm sure it has left many of you, shattered. As well as being the finest musician that I have ever heard, he was also amongst the most genuine and giving of friends and I loved him to pieces.

In the mid 80's I was lucky enough to do a series of concerts with Isaac as a duo and they were, without doubt, the proudest moments of my musical life. It was the only time I ever remember being nervous on stage... Living up to my reputation is one thing - trying to live up to Isaac's was another...

I wrote the song 'Hands From Heaven' as a surprise for Isaac and I used it one night to introduce him at a local folk club. It was the first time he had heard it and the only time I can ever remember him being totally speechless... Just after I heard he was ill, I posted the song on the web in my Songbook and he sent me an email, full of love, that I shall never forget.

This recording was made at the Hong Kong Folk Festival in 1986 - after hearing it, they booked Isaac the following year... and of course he not only lived up to - but surpassed - all of their expectations.

I offer the track as my memorial to Isaac.
