I'm coming back to you and Cleveland County....

Have you turned your ear towards the woodland recently?.
Heard the Song of Cimarron riding down the wind?
I can see you as you light the Incense of the Night...
putting logs upon the fire you burn your smile into my mind...

CHORUS
I'm coming back to you in Cleveland County
when the storms of life are gathering round my soul...
I know the touch of you and Cleveland County
will make me whole, will make me whole...

City lights are fine there's no denyin'...
and tree-lined squares are lovely in the fall...
but they can't compare to moonlight on a dozen fragile roses
that cling, as do my memories, to your greystone cottage wall...

CHORUS
I'm coming back to you in Cleveland County
when the storms of life are gathering round my soul...
I know the touch of you and Cleveland County
will make me whole, will make me whole...

And I long to see the sunrise on the meadow...
and watch your painter's eye approve the colouring of the day...
and when the weather's fine I will watch you build your boat
and bring you tea and fantasies laid out on a tray...

There are men who showed me kindness and I will remember them.
And I don't regret my love for those who did me harm......
But I still believe the nearest that I've ever been to Heaven
was waking in the morning safe inside your arms.....

CHORUS
I'm coming back to you in Cleveland County
when the storms of life are gathering round my soul...
I know the touch of you and Cleveland County
will make me whole, will make me whole...

Two facts about this song you may not have known:

The 'Song of Cimarron' mentioned is in fact the title track
of an album by the band Poco called 'Rose of Cimarron'

'Incense of the Night' was a particularly beautiful resin
incense sold by a shop in Whitby, Yorkshire, England.
