... the bridge to one another....
Bridges

What was that you said? 'You should see this place in autumn.
Yes - it's lovely in the summer - but you ought to see it then!'
And I smiled as I replied 'We'll come back when leaves are falling...
and we'll see it in its glory - you just call and tell me when.'
Then you turned your head away saying 'But I don't know where I'll be'
and I think you caught the echo of the pain inside of me...
Cos you started burning bridges, behind us on the road
and you wrote the opening chapter in the tale that can't be told...

There is a house upon a hill. You said 'I know you'd love the garden...
it belongs to friends of mine who spend the summer months in France.'
I said 'Maybe we could go there - when they come back in September?'
Then I looked into your eyes and saw the light inside them dance.
Before again you turned away, saying 'But I don't know where I'll be.'
and I know I caught the echo of your 'Now!' inside of me...
and I helped you burn those bridges behind us on the road,
I helped you write the chapter in the tale that can't be told....

And the memories drive me crazy - for the words must go unspoken.
The time we shared is our secret - my promise goes unbroken...

Though a single hour can change your life - a single word can change a story.
And sometimes 'Now or never!' are the only words to say...
With a future so uncertain, you must see the chance and take it.
You must see the love - and make it - any time it comes your way...
And I would like to say 'Forever' - but then I don't know where I'll be.
At least we caught the echoes of our heartbeats - you and me...
And the bridge to one another we crossed that day along the road...
and there is love inside the pages of the tale that can't be told...
