In 2003 Rob and I decided to take our first holiday in England since the 70's. Having just adopted Tiffin, and considering his age and health, it was important that we found a pet-friendly place to stay... so I went hunting on the Internet for cottages for hire - the criteria being king-sized beds, luxurious facilities and a willingness to take well-behaved dogs. I'm glad to say we hit gold on the first try... when I found Just a few miles from the sea nr Weston Super Mare in Somerset but set in the quiet country village of Wick St. Lawrence it is a beautiful, quiet retreat where literally everything you could wish for is provided - including TVs/DVD/CD players/VCRs, king-sized, four-poster beds and (in some cottages) Whirlpool/Spa baths! We went for our first stay there in September 2003 (in Willow Cottage) and had such a good time that we returned to celebrate our 33rd Wedding Anniversary in April 2004 (shared between Baytree Cottage and Cider House)... and now, in 2008 we are heading for our 10th visit there, which speaks for itself! It has truly become our home away from home. Peter and Virginia Whitehead keep the place immaculate and you couldn't wish for better hosts. If you're looking for somewhere beautiful for a week or two - or even a short stay/long weekend - it's perfect. Use my (very simplified!) little map below to explore the cottages Note: Cottage pictures will open in their own window.
